Ask any past guest what made their trip with us most memorable and they will enthusiastically answer, “the guides!”
Idaho Wilderness Company Guides are your ideal river hosts, excelling at hunting, fishing, and culinary skills, not to mention, story telling.
Guides for Idaho Wilderness Company are:
- Licensed rescue and first aid trained. Your safety is a top priority.
- Gracious, helpful and ready to show you the river and wilderness they love.
- Most willing and able bodied to ensure Guest comfort and fun during your wilderness hunt.
Employing seasonal guides is much like keeping track of Canadian Geese or Monarch Butterflies. We know where they are at and what they are up to when they are here, but once the migration begins all bets are off.
In no particular order, hereʼs what we know of what our crew is up to.

AJ Ambelang (Andy)
Finished college at the University of Montana in Missoula in the spring of 2011. He has been working as many Colorado trips through the Grand Canyon as he can squeeze in. AJ is now a landlord in Missoula MT. He continues to work on his guitar skills and ski patrol during the winter months.

Joel Bender (Uncle Joel)
Uncle Joel and Big Steve are best of friends and have been since 1982 where they met in hunting camp in the Idaho wilderness. He is the namesake of the youngest Zettel. He and his wife Nancy, are the proud parents of previous Idaho Wilderness Company guides, Ty and Nate.
Joel has guided on the Middle Fork and in hunting camps from Idaho to Alaska. He is a true wild spirit, the consummate over-achiever, and a great Uncle Joel to the Zettels and the rest of the guides. He is part owner of a very successful lumber brokerage company, Sapphire Lumber in Hamilton MT.

Spencer Colgan (Spencer)
Spencer has spent the last many summers with Idaho Wilderness Company (IWC) working on the river. He has family in New Zealand and has spent some time visiting there in the past.

Adam Reed (Adam)
Adam, (who worked for us full time a decade ago) has helped us out the past couple of seasons on the river and in hunting camp. He has two children, and lives in Whitefish, MT.
Adam works part time for another outfitter in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness chasing wolves and Mountain Lions. He is also a horse shoe-er and an electrician when the outfitting fun and games run dry. We expect to see Adam on the river and in camp next summer. He can be found in the backcountry with IWC during some periods of time during the hunting season.
Craig McCallum (Craig)
Craig continues to impressively balance being a successful business owner as Salmon Idahoʼs premier baker at Oddfellows Bakery, and his other obligations. A family man now with his beautiful wife Jessica and their four children, Craig still finds plenty of time for his outdoor and guiding addictions.
